Deconstructivism Graphic Design
HYPEBEAST MAGAZINE ISSUE 20: https://hypebeast.com/2018/1/hypebeast-magazine-issue-20-virgil-abloh-release
I decided to archive my daily input once in a while. Not sure if I can keep doing this for long time, but this is an attempt to keep myself immersed in design in some way.
As the day one, I want to share this beautiful editorial work “Hypebeast 20 — The X Issue” done by Hybrid Design, a design studio based in SF. Fabio Sasso, a Brazilian product designer based in Oakland, California, described this as “Deconstructivism Graphic Design.” Actually, that is exactly what I’ve been wanting to learn. Adding a sort of chaos and breaking harmony on purpose is quite challenging because it might lose efficiency of its function, right? So, obviously that requires a certain amount of discipline to make it work as a "design."

"Beautifully disorganized"
"functionally disoriented"
Beautifully disorganized, or functionally disoriented, I don't know exactly how I should call this kind of paradoxical design. But, this sort of disruption pulls stronger attention and gives you a moment, it could be a confusion, to stop to think. That is actually a very comfortable moment though. It's almost like exploring a new town without a map (I love it!!!!). As the design in the Bay Area is getting similar, possibly due to the situation where the industry is pretty much tech dominant, I’m personally looking forward to seeing these types of design coming out more often.
We are getting disconnected with printed books because of the increase of online publishing, which is a little sad to see as I'm one of the older generation that grew up with books and magazines. Assuming this deconstructivism design would show right fit to print more than to digital, it could be a way to make physical publishing more valuable and give it more enjoyment to flip page to page. I'm trying to gain reference for desconstructivism graphic design, so I would be more than happy if you share some of them with me.
